Flanges with Concentrated Loads
Evaluate members for concentrated loads on flanges (e.g. moment connection).
Assess flanges subjected to concentrated forces, such as moment connections, using CalcBook. Specify the loading direction, connection type, and bracing configurations to ascertain the capacity of the loaded flange. This calculation is applicable for evaluating either the top or bottom flange of a beam that imparts end moment force-couples to a supporting beam.
Failure Modes Checked:
Flange local bending (tension only)
Web local yielding
Web local crippling (compression only)
Web sidesway buckling (compression only)
Web compression buckling (compression only)
